What made you choose to write in the paranormal genre?
Being both a geek and a romantic, I always loved a little (or a lot) of magic with my romance. When I read, I want to escape to other worlds, and my daydreams are always filled with magic, adventure, dragons, and wizards. When I started writing, I wanted to put those daydreams on paper. They say write what you know. Well, I know I love paranormal!
How many books do you currently have out and which one would you recommend new readers start with?
My current series is called Wyrd Love: a paranormal romance where consent is always sexy. There are currently four books out in the series. I try to write Wyrd Love where you can pick up any book and understand the story line, but I still suggest starting at the beginning, with Siren’s Song: Jack is a dragon who just had his heart broken. Adelle is a siren who’s afraid to sing. They are thrust together through a series of unfortunate events and just need to make things work!
Do you enjoy reading paranormal books as much as you like t write them?
Paranormal is without a doubt, my favorite genre. Throw a drag, a werewolf, or a magical world at me and I will devour the book like crazy!
If you could co-write a new paranormal book with any other author who would you choose and why?
I have to say that if I had the chance to co-write with my girl crush, Kresley Cole, I’d be over the moon! Her blend of action, magic, and humor gives me life! I have consumed all of her books and always want more. Working with her and seeing how her mind ticks would be pure joy!
How do you think you have grown as an author from the time when you first started until now?
I’ve learned a ton since first publishing Siren’s Song. not just about the business, but about the craft as well. Each time I work on a book, I try to learn something new about dialog, pacing, the action or whatever subject that is available to me and implement it in my latest work. I strive to make each book better than the last. My latest, Alchemy’s Hunger, I learn a lot about making your story a page turner. So far, my readers have told me they couldn’t put this one down!
If you had to describe the life of an author in three words what would you choose?
Creative, challenging, and fulfilling.
Do you have any recent literary news that you would like to share with us?
Wyrd Love is still going strong! But I’m also working on a two book story called DemonHeart. There will still be the usual snark, strong women, and consent but DemonHeart will be a bit racier and darker than Wyrd Love. I’m super excited to get this story moving!
How long on average does it take you from start to finish to release a new book?
Between working full time and quality time with the husband, it takes me anywhere from six months to a year to get a full length novel written. I like to take my time in presenting the best story I can to my readers. But if inspiration strikes, I can move faster.
What book or books do you plan on promoting during your paranormal themed day takeover?
My latest in the Wyrd Love series, Alchemy’s Hunger! My readers have been clamoring to see what happens to once villain turned reluctant hero, Tony Harris and the knots his lady Faith ties him into. Alchemy’s Hunger is available now on Amazon, Nook, iBooks, and Kobo along with the rest of the Wyrd Love series.
If you could give your younger self one piece of advice when it came to being an author what would you say and why?
Don’t be afraid to try! You will never be too old to pursue what you love. There will always be ups and downs but stay on target. It will be worth it.
