Are you an indie author or with a publisher and what do you find the pros and cons to be for each?
I am an indie author, after several years of beating my head against the high, thick wall of traditional publishing. I love it! Pro: I love having complete control, and writing what I want, what my readers want, and what moves me. Con: It’s hard work, since I do everything, not just the writing.
Traditional publishing – Pro: having someone there to do all the detail work, leaving you time to focus on just the writing. Con: the contracts, the tiny royalties, and the lack of control over my own work.
What is your current “work in progress”?
I am working on several things – because that’s how I roll. 🙂 I have the first book of a PNR/Gothic mystery series in the works for the new year. The prequel will be out the first week of December. Next is an expansion of a YA fantasy story that readers have been clamoring for. That’s slated for a January release. I am also into the first book of a YA fantasy series, that I’ve been dying to write. I learned to write in the fantasy genre, so it’s lovely to come home. I also have an ongoing series, which is a spin off of my Claire Wiche Chronicles. And of course, the random anthology story thrown into the mix. 🙂

What one character from your book or books do you connect with most and why?
I love Alex Finch, from my Monster Files series. She has my sarcastic sense of humor, my way of looking at life, and I so wish I could say the things she does out loud. She is the character most like me.
Being that this event is for the Christmas Season do you have any special traditions that you would like to share with us?
I spend Christmas with my family. That’s an important tradition to me. I also have this amazing collection of Santas, and my nephew sets them up differently every year. I love seeing what new configuration he comes up with.
What is your favorite Christmas dessert?
Dutch apple pie with French vanilla ice cream. Num.
What is the worst gift that you have ever received for Christmas?
My family does great gifts, so that’s tough. I did get the same book from my brother and sister one year – I book I already read. They started buying gift cards after that. 🙂
Who is your favorite author and or favorite book?
Argh – too many to list! I will say the first book that comes to mind when someone asks, because it introduced me to fantasy and science fiction. A Wrinkle in Time, by Madeline L’Engle. One of my favorite authors, and one I still read, is Raymond E. Feist.
If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Smart, funny, sentimental.
What are your thoughts on being a part of the upcoming Book Elves on the Shelves event?
I am thrilled! I love hanging out with the readers I’ve met before, and getting to know new readers. I also love getting to know new to me authors, as a fellow author and a reader. My TBR list always has room for more books.
