Are you an indie author or with a publisher and what do you find the pros and cons to be for each?
I am an indie author. For me, the pros are the ability to work on your own schedule, the ability to create your story as you see fit, and holding the rights to your work. The cons, in my experience, are having the necessary funds for everything you need (editing, cover, etc.) and finding the right outlets (and having the time!) to market yourself. Published authors have a team behind them, which is invaluable. However, a con for me would be adhering to deadlines, as writing is not my full time job. Also, giving up some (or all) of my rights for a period of time would make me itch.
What is your current “work in progress”?
I am currently working on a contemporary romance centered around a side character from my last novel, Sparrow. Jen is a side character that ended up playing a bigger role in the story than I expected. I fell in love with her and want to give her a proper happily ever after! Her story is titled Cardinal.
How many books do you currently have out and titles if you would like?
I currently have four books published. The Guardian Trilogy – Guardian, Allegiant, and Reborn – is a paranormal romance centered around Emma Donohue and her boyfriend James. It’s a ghost story, but more so a love story. My latest release is Sparrow, a contemporary romance from the male point of view. Kyle and Addison fall in love at the age of seventeen only to have Addison disappear unexpectedly. Eight years later they meet again. Life has happened, as it often does, and the two have to figure out how to navigate their new relationship.
What one character from your book or books do you connect with most and why?
I would say Emma from The Guardian Trilogy. She’s the first character that ever spoke to me and she will always hold a special place in my heart.
Being that this event is for the Christmas Season do you have any special traditions that you would like to share with us?
We do a lot of travel around Christmas, although it’s local. My family’s Christmas has always been characterized by being crazy busy! I always look forward to the day after.
What is your favorite Christmas dessert?
Peanut butter fudge. Yum.
What is the worst gift that you have ever received for Christmas?
I can’t say I have ever received a gift and thought it was awful. There have been some that I have never used, but nothing out of the ordinary. For example, my husband’s eccentric aunt sent him a wooden pull-toy duck once and he was thirteen. Nothing like that 🙂
Who is your favorite author and or favorite book?
Like I can chose?! Yikes. I like romance books of almost every genre. There are too many awesome authors to pick just one.
If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Wife, Mom, Writer
What are your thoughts on being apart of the upcoming Book Elves on the Shelves event?
I’m excited! This is the first event I’ve done with you all. Meeting new readers is one of the best things about writing.
