Hi all this is the interview that I recently had the pleasure doing with paranormal/contemporary romance author Carly Fall. She has several books available on the market including By Sea which is part of her Supernatural Renegades Series. To check out the book review that I did on By Sea just click HERE!
How did you come up with the idea By Sea?
I had been tossing around the idea of a protection agency for the wealthy for a couple of years, but couldn’t make it fit into any of my books. By Sea was born when I went on a trip to the Caribbean and I saw these big, beautiful yachts out on the water. I came home and did some research on them, and everything then fell into place.
So I really like the name that you have chosen for the series Supernatural Renegades but I am curious how you chose this specific title?
Thank you. The characters are renegades. They don’t have a home, they are wanted by the government and they are essentially playing outside of normal, everyday laws. They each have a supernatural gift, hence, the Supernatural Renegades.
How many books can we expect to see in the Supernatural Renegades Series?
My plan is for 7-10. I’m currently working on number four, and number three releases on February 23rd
What is your favorite paranormal/sci fi being and why?
I think it would be a vampire, but anything can be made to be sexy. I’ve read some shifter novels that were great. I mean, who would think a wolf or bear as sexy? And vampires used to be horrible creatures, but obviously, that has changed due to authors like Anne Rice, J.R. Ward, Lara Adrian, and Stephanie Meyers. For sexy aliens, check out my Six Saviors Series 😉
If you had to describe your book “By Sea” to new readers what would you choose?
By Sea is a suspenseful read with some twists and turns and some good lovin’ tossed in to make for a fun read.
What is your targeted audience for the By Sea book and do you think the cover justifies your own images for the book in your mind?
The target audience is people who like their alpha males, a little humor, being taken away to new and exotic places, and some sexy times. I love the cover, and yes, that’s exactly how I see Brody and Rayna
Of the many different scenarios that you could have chosen for your book why the war on drugs?
Mainly because the wars in the Middle East have been done to death. I wanted something different, and we still do send troops down to South America, but we just don’t hear about it like we do when they send troops to the Middle East.
Is there any of your characters throughout your books that you connect with on a personal level and if so why?
I connect with most of my characters. I think almost every one of them has a little bit of me. It may be an insecurity I have, a quirky trait, or a situation that has happened to me.
What two things do you want readers to know about you as a writer and about the books that you write?
Most of my book are of the paranormal / fantasy / sci-fi genre. I love alpha men and creating stories where they meet their matches. I also love writing this genre because it is another world, and my characters can experience love and emotion on a much broader scale than they could if they were in a contemporary setting without their paranormal abilities. They love harder, cry deeper, laugh louder and the drama can be ratcheted up to levels it can’t go to in contemporary romance.
What advice would you give to new authors just starting out?
Writer’s write. They don’t talk about it, think about it, bitch about it or dream about it. They just do it. And don’t steal pictures – BUY your photos. You can’t take a picture of Bradley Cooper and put him on your shifter novel. If you’re lucky, you’ll get a cease and desist order. If you’re not, you’ll get a lawsuit that you will lose. Be kind to other authors, as well as bloggers. Kindness will get you far in this business. Learn that not everyone is going to like your book. If you can’t handle that, don’t publish. You need a thick skin for this business.
