Multi Author, Multi Day, Multi Genre Book Bash Author Interview – Missy Lynn Ryan

missyHere is my author interview with the talented author Missy Lynn Ryan for the Multi Author, Multi Day, Multi Genre Book Bash – day three which is featuring Paranormal/Sci Fi/Fantasy Authors. She is the author of A Love Sex Magick Novels which contains Forbidden Alpha and Forbidden Liaisons which I recommend you check out if you have yet to do so.

How many books do you currently have available on the market within the paranormal/sci fi or fantasy genres and which would they fit into?
I have two urban fantasy books, Forbidden Alpha and Forbidden Liaisons.

If you had to choose one genre to read for the rest of your life what would it be and why?
I love urban fantasy. I’m a sucker for a good vampire story (pun intended!). Recently I’ve also fallen in love with several dystopian series as well. The political dynamics of these books are exciting to explore.

What do you think the hardest part of being an author is?
For me it’s finding enough hours in the day to write! I have so many great ideas, they pop into my head all the time. I’m always outlining a future book or project, but writing a good story takes time to craft and edit. To tell a great story that readers will love (and deserve) takes time. I’ve learned to be okay with that.

Do you believe that any type of paranormal/fantasy creatures really exist such as vampires, witches, ghosts etc and why do you believe this either way?
I’m actually a total wuss! I can’t watch horror movies anymore and I can’t do haunted houses. I do believe in spirits and ghosts. There are a couple un-explainable events that I’ve had in my life that lead me to think this. It’s always been tied to particular locations, older buildings or apartments that are known to have hauntings.

Personally, I’d like to believe that science is constantly evolving and that there are things in our world and this universe that right now we can’t even begin to explain. Perhaps the supernatural is one of those things.

What is one random thing that you can tell us about yourself that readers might be surprised by?
I love video games. I’m obsessed with the Sims franchise and often create characters from my favorite books to play with in the game. One day I may even start my own youtube channel. You know, when I’m not feverishly writing.

Have you ever read a book that left you raw with emotion whether it be sad, happy or even scared? I’m a huge, huge, Harry Potter fan. I read those books each year (in some format, either audio or print). Every time I am filled with a sense of wonder and hope. I love the trio – Harry, Ron and Hermione and watching them grow into their powers and abilities is such a great journey. Plus it’s a great tale of good overcoming evil in a fantasy world that sometimes mirrors our own.

If one of your books were to be turned into a movie who would you cast to play your leading characters and why?
The main character, Chai Macek is very sexy and exotic and I always pictured a bollywood actress, Deepika Padukune as playing her. The other characters were really a mesh of folks in my mind. I think if I had to pick an actor for Jarret it would be a cross between Bradley Cooper and Zac Efron.

If you could co-write a book with any author who would it be with, what genre would you choose and why?
J.K. Rowling. LOL. Again, I’m a huge huge fan. I’ve read her adult books as well and love her imaginative storytelling. I’m not sure what kind of book I would want to write though. Probably whatever she tells me!

When it comes to your own books what is one thing that you do to ensure that they are unique and will stand out against other books within the same genre?
I love surprises! I try to keep the reader on the edge of their seat and keep the story unpredictable. I also like to play with the supernatural creatures featured in my stories. While I have the typical vampires and werewolves, I love adding new types of magical creatures that aren’t often featured and showcasing their powers in the larger story.

Any big plans or projects planned for 2016 that you would like to share with us?
Several. I’ve got another book in the Love Sex Magic series scheduled for release this year and two spin-off projects that will be out in the summer. Subscribers to my email (here) to get updates on releases and exclusive teasers for all of these projects.
