Horror/Fantasy Author Chris Philbrook – Book Elves Event Interview

Here is the interview that I did with Chris Philbrook for the Book Elves on the Shelves Event. He will be doing his takeover on Dec. 4th 2-4pm CENTRAL so make sure to stop by and visit!

Are you an indie author or with a publisher and what do you find the pros and cons to be for each?
I’m currently an indie author with an agent for foreign markets and film and tv rights. The discussion on pros and cons could go on for hours, but I can say that I do love the independence and amount of control being an indie gives you. Being with a publisher you give up control for a theoretically much larger chunk of cash…

What is your current “work in progress”?
Right now I’m in the last quarter of The Echoes of Sin, the third novel in my Kinless Trilogy. Fun stuff, and I’m happy to wrap the series. After that, I’ll be moving onto a new trilogy set in my Adrian’s Undead Diary world.

How many books do you currently have out and titles if you would like?
Right now I have 12 titles available. The eight books in the completed AUD series are: Dark Recollections, Alone No More, Midnight, The Failed Coward, Wrath, In the Arms of Family, The Trinity, and Cassie. The two released novels in The Kinless Trilogy are The Wrath of the Orphans, and The Motive for Massacre. The third is titled The Echoes of Sin and will hopefully release mid next year. The first book of my urban fantasy series The Reemergence is called Tesser: A Dragon Among Us, and the completed second book is called Ambryn & the Cheaters of Death. My free promo eBook At Least He’s Not On Fire is also floating out and about in the world.

What one character from your book or books do you connect with most and why?
I connect most strongly with Adrian Ring, the titular character from AUD. He and I share a personality.

Being that this event is for the Christmas Season do you have any special traditions that you would like to share with us?
I always try to get a live tree for the holiday on December 1st. That was the day my father passed away in 2001, and more than just being a holiday thing, it’s a way for me to remember him.

What is your favorite Christmas dessert?
I’ll skip dessert and just chug egg nog.  Man I could live off that stuff.

What is the worst gift that you have ever received for Christmas?
The worst gift ever? Man I have a long list of crappy presents, but for a 13 year old boy, I think the cassette of New Kids on the Block has to rank up there as biggest miss by Mom… But you know what? I hung tough.

Who is your favorite author and or favorite book?
I have far too many favorites. I will say that The Stand by Stephen King has to be one of the most influential books I’ve ever read, as has Lovecraft’s work.

If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
I’m. Bad. At. Math.

What are your thoughts on being apart of the upcoming Book Elves on the Shelves event?
I’m excited to spend time with new potential readers! It’s always a hoot to do some prizes and chat up folks about reading and storytelling.
