Fantasy Author Maer Wilson – Book Elves Event Interview

Here is the interview that I did with Maer Wilson for the Book Elves on the Shelves Event. Her takeover will be done on Dec. 13th 4-6pm CENTRAL! Make sure to come hang out with us as this amazing author takesover!

Are you an indie author or with a publisher and what do you find the pros and cons to be for each?
I’ve been both, but I’m currently with Ellysian Press where I’m extremely happy. Of course, I’m also one of the publishers, so I’m totally biased.  As an author, I like the support you get from being with a press. Not just from the press itself, but from the other authors. It can get very lonely in the Indie world, even belonging to large author groups. So I think the biggest pro of being with a press is that support in all aspects of the publishing process – from editing to cover art to marketing.

What is your current “work in progress”?
I just completed “Wedding Ghost” the 4th novelette in the Modern Magics series. It will release in early 2015. The third book, Magics, is done and will also be released in 2015.

How many books do you currently have out and titles if you would like?
I have 2 books and 3 novelettes out in the Modern Magics series:
Relics, Book 1,
Portals, Book 2
“Ghost Memory”
“Unwanted Ghost”
“Ghost Dancer”

What one character from your book or books do you connect with most and why?
Probably La Fi since she is my heroine and I write in 1st person. I love how she is growing in each book and coming out of her shell more. She comes across as very tough and no-nonsense, but she has a softness that she hides. It’s tough for her to let people outside her family in. And she has some fears that can get in her way. It’s been like watching a child grow and change as she evolves through the books.

Being that this event is for the Christmas Season do you have any special traditions that you would like to share with us?
My family likes to hangout on Christmas Eve, eat a great dinner and open presents. On Christmas Day we have a more casual time, with leftovers and we catch a movie we all want to see.

What is your favorite Christmas dessert?
Chocolate meringue pie – not very Christmasy, but that seems the only time I make it anymore.

What is the worst gift that you have ever received for Christmas?
I can’t think of anything I’ve ever received that was super bad.

Who is your favorite author and or favorite book?
I have too many to only come up with one, but George R.R. Martin and J.K. Rowling are two of my faves.

If you had to describe yourself in three words what would they be?
Creative, dependable, honest

What are your thoughts on being a part of the upcoming Book Elves on the Shelves event?
I think it’s great to have this event and share some fun times with some new (I hope) and old friends.
