While it’s fun to read the books by our favorite authors do you ever wonder what goes on inside their mind besides the words that they use to entice and brighten our world? I love learning more about my favorite authors and what makes them tick. Brenda K. Davies takes the mask off just a bit to give us more inside details and fun facts about her life and her amazing Vampire Awakenings series. I hope you enjoy this short but fun interview that I just completed with her. Thank you for taking the time to do this with me!
As many of us know that you write under at least two names Brenda K. Davies and Erica Stevens of which have their on captivating vampire series. Why did you choose to release the books under different pen names?
I wanted to keep them separate because of the fact that Brenda’s books have more adult content in them than the Erica Stevens books.
Do you think that each author pen name has its own personality in which helps to capture and complete the series that you are writing under each?
I think so, Erica has to stay more PG but Brenda can be a lot more free in that way. They’re both a lot of fun to write under but it’s really great to be able to switch up the genres. Helps to keep things fresher I think.
Do you see any other new pen names in your near future?
No, I think two is enough. I do want to release some books for middle school aged kids when I get a chance to work on some of my older stuff, but they’ll be released under my real name.
Do you get confused when replying to fan mail and reviews about different books and ever reply with the wrong name?
I haven’t done that yet but I have signed books with the wrong name! It’s only a matter of time before the fan mail and reviews happen too!
How was the Vampire Awakenings series born into your mind?
I honestly don’t remember. I started the first book when I was nineteen and put it aside when it was about half way done. I didn’t pick it up again until I was twenty-four. I wrote the second book right afterward.
Of the many different books that you have written in the paranormal field do you find vampires being one that you are now familiar with and prefer or do you have a paranormal preference?
I’ve always loved all things vampire and definitely prefer them. Though I do have a witch series and a werewolf series that I’ll release when I get a chance to work on them again. I’m hoping to do so sometime next year.
How many books do you currently see in the Vampire Awakenings and is there any big secrets going to play out in book 3?
I’m not sure how many there will be, I’ll keep going as long as the stories still want to come to me. I wasn’t expecting to be able to return to it now and I’m having a lot of fun writing the third one. No big secrets, but I think getting a look inside Ethan is going to be interesting for most people. He’s not exactly what he seems and there is more to him than what was revealed in Destined.
What does your husband think of your different author personas?
He’s really proud but other than some of The Survivor Chronicles, he’s never read anything I’ve written. I don’t know what I’d do without him though. He makes sure I stay fed, gets me out of the house once in awhile, and helps to keep me sane.
Tell us something totally random about yourself!
I went bungee jumping when I was twenty, the guy had to push me off of the stand. I’m glad I did it, but it is definitely something I would never do again. I would like to try skydiving at least once, I’d probably have to be pushed out of the plane too though!
